Constructive Feedback

It is Constructive Feedback Friday over at I Heart Faces! Basically, you get to post a photo and get some feedback to help you make your editing / photos better. Here is the copy of the photo that I edited for this.

For this photo I am not sure of all that I did. I didn't do a lot to this one because I wasn't really sure what to do. I was just playing around with some actions (Pioneer Woman's Sunshine Action) and the contrast, I think.

This is the original:

I like the sunlight behind her and the image itself, but I don't like the overall coloring of the picture.

f/5; 1/40 sec; ISO 400; 35 mm & I use Photoshop CS2.

Thanks for any advice on improvements!!!

I like the light on her hair too, and I have a photo very similar to this that I altered into sepia. It made the harsh colours dissapear and really brought out the highlights in the hair.

I tend to try and fix images in camera at shoot rather than on the computer, so if i'd take this pic I might think about using a reflector to get a little more light on the face next time. You can make a reflector from a solid bit of white card and get your subject to hold it or prop it up on a chair next to them.

Hope those are useful.

Feel free to contact me if you would like.

Hi!

She is beautiful. I love her carefree hair and attitude :).

To edit this one, I selected the darker portions of her face and neck and lightened them individually. On way you could have achieved this sooc is to use a reflector. As it was the ground was reflecting sunlight up on her face that created the "spooky" lighting from below that you got here. Think of flashlights at Halloween while telling spooky stories.

I thought I'd come to the back of the line to see how things were going back here. :)

I agree with you that the overall color needs an adjustment. I love her tossled hair highlighted by the sun. Such a beautiful girl!

I hope you don't mind but I did a quick edit of your picture:

http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m442/2spottedrats/Dec_28_2009_8.jpg

Here's what I did:

1) Used the Healing brush to remove the dark circles under her eyes.
2) Gaussian blur to de-emphasize the background.
3) Ran PW Bring Out The Eyes - 20%.
4) Brought up the Exposure +40.
5) Curves Adjustment to lighten some more.
6) Leveled to bring up midtones more.
7) Selective Color adjustment added tiny bit of cyan to red to reduce redness in her face/moved black up in neutrals & blacks to put some darkness back in her hair. (I love this adjustment tool!)
8) I ran PW Sunshine since you did in your edit. I think it was a good choice. :) I do believe I reduced the red channel under "Warmness" in thsi action.
9) Added Florabella Lavender Tint @ 10%.

I'm by no means an expert at all this so my workflow probably looks wacky. I just get in there and start playing with stuff when I don't know what to do. Kinda what I did here. :)

You caught a very natural look here. Good job!
